Looking for a yoga teacher training in Seattle? Listed below are some schools who offer yoga certification programs along with tips on becoming a yoga teacher.
8 Limbs Yoga has been offering yoga teacher training in Seattle since it was established in 1996. It has four locations, Capitol Hill, Phinney Ridge, Wedgwood, and West Seattle. They are Hatha based, but also have Hatha Flow (Vinyasa) classes. They also have an impressive range of specialty classes such as “Yoga for Athletes” and “Yoga for 50+.” The studio hosts several retreats a year, some that stay within Washington state, and some that travel internationally (e.g. this year’s retreat to Guatemala).
8 Limbs offers Seattle yoga teacher trainings at the 200 Hr and 500 Hr levels. The 200 Hr teacher training is completed in two parts: basic training, which meets one weekend per month for five months, and the advanced training yoga retreat, which is a week-long residential retreat at Breitenbush Hot Springs in Detroit, Oregon. The 500 Hr training follows a module format. To complete the training, you must complete fifteen modules, including the advanced training retreat II at Breitenbush (offered every summer, counts for three modules), and anatomy weekend.
8 Limbs also offers a pre and postnatal training (eligible for RPYT through Yoga Alliance). Observation is a huge element of this training, so prenatal classes are included in the price of the training. Continuing education workshops take place at the studio throughout the year, and there is also a mentorship program available.

The College of Purna Yoga has its main studio in Bellevue, Washington, but its teachers are scattered across the country. The teachers are kept on a strict regiment of yearly continuing education, and must be certified at the 500 or 2000 Hr level. Aadil Palkhivala and Savitri are two of the most well respected yogis in the world, and they are the founders and directors of the College of Purna Yoga.
Before you begin the 2000 Hr Yoga Alliance approved teacher training, you must be familiar with Purna Yoga Sequences (Morning Series, Hip Series, Surya Namaskar, Tibetan Rites) and the Purna Yoga Meditation Snacks prior to the training. Some locations offer a prep class to fill this prerequisite. The training is offered as a weekend or intensive program.
The 500 Hr training has two options, the regular 500 Hr RYT track, or the Affiliate Purna Yoga Instructor certification (in addition to the 500 Hr certification). The latter involves more independent study than Yoga Alliance requires in a typical 500 Hr training, and it allows graduates to be recognized as Affiliate Purna Yoga Instructors. The 2000 Hr training only runs every other year, and its graduates are eligible to run Purna Yoga teacher trainings, open Purna Yoga studios, etc.
