Yoga Shelter Detroit Teacher Training

Yoga Shelter boasts several studios in the Detroit area, with locations in West Bloomfield, Royal Oak, Birmingham, and Grosse Point. They also offer services through Yoga Medics in Michigan and have a studio across the country in Studio City, California. Studio founder Eric Paskel has designed a type of yoga for the studio called Sanga Yoga. The word “sanga” means community, and that is the type of environment Eric seeks to create at all locations of Yoga Shelter.

Their 200 Hr yoga teacher training in Detroit is not simply called “teacher training,” it is called “Life and Teacher Training.” It is literally divided into those two different categories, which leads to certification and eligibility to register with Yoga Alliance at the 200 Hr level. The intensive format starts with a retreat and continues into training.

The purpose of Life training is to train the whole person rather than training a person to teach a class. The Life training involves four pillars: lectures (which include ideas about yoga), exploration exercises, action adventures, and sharing circles. The four pillars help trainees to integrate Yoga Shelter’s philosophy into their everyday lives.

According to Yoga Shelter’s website “Life Training builds a foundation and a vision for the life we want to live. Teacher Training incorporates the practical application of those teachings, to deepening our commitments, making lasting changes and preparing us to become Yoga Teachers.” Upon completion of Life training, Teacher Training will lead trainees into learning a master flow that will inspire them to teach any type of yoga class. Trainees must also attend at least four yoga classes per week and study approved texts for about an hour every morning. At the end of training, trainees have the option to participate in the Yoga Shelter testing process.
