Axis Yoga Teacher Training In Denver

Located in Denver, Axis Yoga is solely a school for teacher trainings, workshops, and yoga retreats. They do not have a regular yoga class schedule or studio. Trainings are held at two locations: Sixth Avenue United Church of Christ on weekends, and Consulate Healing Center on Thursday nights. Trainings take place over fourteen weeks.

Yoga Teacher Trainings at Axis Yoga are capped at 25 students. The training is offered in three phases. The first phase is called Foundational Methods, and it is an immersion into yoga practice with emphasis on learning primary asana, pranayama, and meditative forms. The fifth through tenth week focuses more on the subtle body, aspects of practice and therapeutic application, and teaching techniques. During this phase, there is instruction in aryuveda, which helps lead to overall health. Bhakti yoga is also present in the second phase. The last phase focuses primarily on teaching methods.

Axis Yoga teacher training in Denver looks at asana practice from two perspectives, flowing and stationary. Over half of the training is devoted to learning the asanas and their intricacies. Axis Yoga focuses on the biomechanics of 24 postures, and teaches their trainees how to recognize and apply their deeper subtle components.

Derik Eselius is the teacher training program director and has been teaching since 1998. He founded Axis Yoga in 2003. His classes draw from his experiences studying Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga as well as the teachings of B.K.S. Iyengar. In addition to founding Axis Yoga, he is the Mind-Body coordinator for Kaiser Permanente, where he develops therapeutic yoga, chi gong, and naturopathy curricula for hospitals. He teaches open classes at Auraria Campus. Other program teachers are veteran instructors from the Denver/Summit area and include Brenna Hatami, Kevin Durkin, and Santosh (a Vairagi Monk).
